FAQs: Frequenly Asked Questions
What is jade?
Jade comes in the
form of two different stones; jadeite & nephrite. Nephrite is considered
the Original jade, the stone which the Chinese have revered since 5000
BC. Jadeite is considered the 'new' jade-being the new comer that started
in 1300 and did not make its mark for another 500 years-when trade between
China and Burma increased in the 1780's.
Mineralogical Differences:
- Nephrite is the
combination of an actinolite formed with a trimolite to create the
fibruous structure : Ca2(Mg,Fe)5(OH)x(Si4011)
- Jadeite is a
sodium aluminium silicate : (NzA1(Si)3)2
Cassiar Jade, Inc.
specializes in the highest quality nephrite jade.
What is the characteristic
of nephrite jade?
Nephrite is the combination
of an actinolite formed with a trimolite to create the fibruous structure
: Ca2(Mg,Fe)5(OH)x(Si4011)an actinolite mineral. It has a hardness of
6-6.5 moh. Due to it's actinolite structure, it is one of the toughest
stones, to be cut, carved and fashioned with diamond tools.
It occurs in the colors
of olive, spinach, apple, light, dark, black, cream, blue grey, grey green,
and pink.
What is the most
desired color?
Naturally occurring
in different colors, green has always been the most treasured. That which
has the most translucent, even, and bright green is often the most desired.
OTHER HIGHLY UNIQUE
SEMI-PRESCIOUS STONES
"STAR MARBLE"
- GUARANTEED TO BE GENUINE AND ALL NATURAL
- Star Marble - can
be found in different parts of the world, however the highest quality
stones are from northern latitudes of Euro-Asia, and North America.
- This is a naturally
occurring crystalline limestone. The size of the 'crystals' within the
stone may range from very small to large at about 3.5mm in diameter.
When the crystals are larger, it creates a 'sparkle' on the surface.
When the crystals are very small, the stone is denser and is considered
the higher quality-like fine porcelain.
- Due to the porous
nature of the Star Marble, one must be more careful about its surfaces.
Non-oily stains can be cleaned by wiping with wet towel. Other stains
that may have color, ink or oil must be immediately washed with warm
soapy water and towel. However, these tougher stains may not be completely
removed.
ARCTIC CRYSTAL and GOLDEN CRYSTAL - GUARANTEED TO BE GENUINE AND ALL NATURAL
- Both are naturally
occurring genuine quartz crystals. Both stones are found in the remote
region bordering Russia and China. The hardness of the stone is at about
8-9 on the scale of 10-with diamond being the hardest.
- The Arctic Crystal
can be crystal clear to opaque white. As a natural stone, it may sometimes
have color inclusions that are Mother Nature's birthmark, and make each
piece a unique and one-of-a-kind. Because this stone is found in very
northern latitudes, and it looks much like the ice and glacier ice of
the Arctic-this beautiful stone has been named "ARCTIC CRYSTAL".
- The Golden Crystal
can be light yellow to dark rich brown. Its color ranging from that
of lemonade to butterscotch to dark caramel. All of the stone's variation
and colors are natural-and make each carving individually unique! They
look almost good enough to eat!
